In the world of computers there are many career paths you can choose and one of the more lucrative, but demanding, careers in the computer world is information technology. You may be more familiar with the abbreviation used to identify the information technology department at your office and that is the IT department. When your computer breaks down you call someone from the information technology group. When you cannot access the network or when you can no longer see files on the network you call someone from the information technology group. But there are many tasks that are part of an information technology career that many people do not know about but encompass much more than fixing your computer connection.
When your company rolls out a new software package it is the information technology group that integrates the software with your existing network. This can involved days, weeks, or months of tireless work that can go on well into the late night hours and even taking up weekends and holidays. The people in your information technology department are on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year in case a critical server or back up system fails. The job of a good information technology technician never seems to end.
A good information technology technician is compensated at a high rate and if you are looking for a job that will put you in the middle of the inner workings of a corporate computer network then information technology is the career for you. It can sometimes be a thankless job but if you are looking to be on the cutting edge of computer technology then you need to be involved in information technology.
